Simple Ham Radio Antennas--S9v Antenna Kit-Assembly and Review, Part 2 of 2. Post #533.

If you're having trouble seeing this video, please insert the following URL into your browser search box: https://youtu.be/Ln1TDI2NEiw. This is part 2 of "Tinker John's (W5CYF) tutorial on assembling and testing a S9v Antenna Kit designed for 20 meters.  If you follow the instructions carefully, you'll succeed in making an efficient portable and emergency antenna.  Tinker John says the antenna works best with a unun or balun and a ground radial or counterpoise system. The radial system supplies "the missing half" of the antenna.  The more radials the better.  I built a similar system a few years ago out of PVC pipe and #12 AWG house wire and found that a radial field of 12 to 16 quarter wave radials seemed to work best for my location.  Your mileage may vary.  The video is well-done and offers quite a few helpful hints.  For the latest Amateur Radio news and events, please check out the blog sidebars.  These news feeds are updated daily.
